Porcelain veneers are custom-made thin structures placed on teeth to enhance appearance. The procedure involves three appointments over five days.
Porcelain veneers are thin structures individually crafted to fit into tooth to fix aesthetic defects. The porcelain veneers procedure completes in three dental appointments in 5 full days, and involves the following: During the first appointment, the patient will discuss with the Cosmetic Dentist the objectives they would like the porcelain veneers to achieve, and Dentist to confirm that veneers are the optimal solution. After the consultsion, the Dentist will make an impression of the teeth, and this will serve as the foundation for the design. During the second dental appointment, the Dentist will make minimal preparation for the placement of Dentsl Veneers. While the permanent veneers are being created and polished at the laboratory , the patient will be wearing temporary veneers. During the final and last appointment, the Dentist will apply the permanent teeth which might take approximately three weeks.
There are several types of porcelain veneers. Stacked ceramic veneers are carefully crafted by hand during a process in which individual layers of porcelain are stacked to closely replicate the patient’s natural teeth’s color and shape. Pressed ceramic veneers are made similarly, but are thicker and more durable than stacked ceramic veneers which are designed digitally on Cat Cam and are made to be incredibly strong. Last but not least, Zirconium-based veneers are frequently used to repair a weak tooth and are manufactured from the same materials as dental crowns.
Patients may be curious about the durability of porcelain veneers before investing in the procedure of having them fitted. The lifespan of porcelain veneers varies on a number of factors, not least, how well they are taken care of. In general, you can expect them to last anywhere between 10-15 years. They are more resistant to damage and staining than many other veneer types, making them more durable and long-lasting.
If you’re thinking of having porcelain veneers – like weighing up any decision in life, you will need to know the benefits and disadvantages. Porcelain veneers’ advantages include the aesthetic difference they can make to your teeth, giving you greater confidence in your smile. They are also more stain resistant than other types of veneers, and less invasive than getting a dental crown fitted. Porcelain veneers’ disadvantages include their permanence, their potential to be damaged if not well cared for, and their potential to cause tooth sensitivity.
Some patients who are considering this procedure may question, do porcelain veneers stain easily? The short answer is no, however it does depend on a few things. While porcelain veneers are known to be more stain resistant than other types of veneers or dental solutions, improper cleaning can lead to temporary stains. Aging of the veneers, damage to your natural teeth beneath the veneers, and food penetrating the veneers through scratches and gaps in the cementing agents are all also reasons why porcelain veneers may appear stained.
